Men's Basketball Tops Blackburn, 61-44

The Westminster men's basketball team topped Blackburn College on Saturday, 61-44. The win brings the Westminster Blue Jays to 4-16 on the season and 3-10 in conference.

After eight lead changes in the first 10 minutes, the Blue Jays started a 12-0 run to secure a 13 point lead with two minutes left in the half. Blackburn gained momentum, cutting the Blue Jays' lead to just seven heading into halftime, 32-25.

Junior Tanner Gentges knocked down a three pointer to start the second half, starting a 15-5 run to give the Blue Jays a 17 point lead. SeniorVerdis Lee Jr. knocked down a three to take an 18 point lead with 12 minutes left in the game, and freshman Tanner Cochran brought the game to 57-36 with just over five minutes remaining. 

Blackburn held the Blue Jays from scoring in the final two minutes, but te Blue Jays came out with the 61-44 win. 

Gentges led the game with 19 points, while pulling down four boards, dishing in four assists and grabbing three steals. Lee Jr. added 12 points and led with five boards. 

The Blue Jays host MacMurray College on Wednesday, February 11, at 8:00 p.m.
