Claremont, Calif. - Senior guard Michael Cohen scored 16 points to move to 996 in his four-year career, but the Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team could not overcome a second-half run from CMS and fell 67-49 on Tuesday evening at Voelkel Gymnasium.

The loss drops Pomona-Pitzer to 9-14 overall and 7-7 in the SCIAC, and into fifth place in the conference standings, one game behind Whittier for the all-important fourth spot (the top four teams earn SCIAC bids). However, the Sagehens are still in control of their own destiny, as they would qualify for the SCIAC Tournament with a win at Redlands on Saturday followed by a home win over Whittier. CMS improves to 17-6 overall and 10-4 in the SCIAC, good for second place.

CMS led 6-0 out of the chute and 18-8 early, but Cohen scored 10 points in the first half to get the Sagehens back within 36-30 at the break. Senior guard Kyle McAndrews started the second half with a basket to make the score 36-32, but Pomona-Pitzer scored just five points in the next 12 minutes, as CMS went on a 27-5 run to take a 63-37 lead.

Cohen shot 8-12 from the floor for his 16 points, continuing his hot shooting that helped him get on the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week after shooting a combined 13-19 in wins over Occidental and Caltech. Senior guard Adrian Brandon added 12 points on 5-8 shooting and McAndrews added 11 points.

Tyler Gaffaney led CMS with 22 points on 8-14 shooting, and added nine rebounds, while Jason Harrington added 14.

Pomona-Pitzer heads to Redlands on Saturday needing a win to keep its playoff hopes alive. Whittier hosts Redlands on Monday and then travels to Voelkel Gymnasium on Tuesday in its final two games.
