Saints Fall, 86-75, at Geneva

(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – The Thomas More College men's basketball team fell, 86-75, to Geneva College tonight (Wednesday, February 11, 2015) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game inside Metheny Fieldhouse in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.

With the loss, the Saints fall to 15-8 overall and 10-4 in the PAC.  With the win, the Golden Tornadoes improve to 10-13 overall and 7-7 in the PAC.

Thomas More jumped out to an early 8-4 lead when sophomore guard/forward Nate McGovney (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) made a three-pointer with 16:18 to play in the first half.  Geneva answered with a 23-15 run capped by a Chris Dean jumper with 6:49 to play in the opening half to give the Golden Tornadoes a 27-23 lead.  The Saints responded with a 9-4 run to retake the lead at 32-31 when senior forward Jalen Clark (Frankfort, Ky./Western Hills) made a jumper with 3:20 to play in the half.  Geneva used a 5-0 run to build a 36-32 lead with 2:17 to play in the half when Jimmy Leichliter made a three-pointer.  Thomas More closed out the half on a 4-0 run to tie the game at 36-36 at halftime when senior forward Drew Mumford (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy) made a jumper with 1:05 to play in the first half.

Geneva opened the second half on an 8-4 run to take a 44-40 lead when Tyler Damazo made a lay-up with 17:42 to play in the game.  The Saints responded with a 6-2 run to tie the game at 46-46 on a McGovney three-pointer with 16:34 to play in the second half.  Geneva then would close out the game on a 40-29 run to claim the 86-75 victory.

McGovney led all scorers with 28 points.  He was joined in double-figure scoring by Mumford with 21 points and Clark with 13 points.  Mumford led the team on the boards with five rebounds, while sophomore guard Drew Mays (Union, Ky./Ryle) led the team in assists with five.

Thomas More returns to action on Saturday (February 14) when it hosts Washington & Jefferson College at 3 p.m. inside the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.  It will be Senior Day on Saturday and the Saints will honor Clark, Mumford and senior guard Eliot Pipes (Nashville, Tenn./Hillsboro) prior to tip-off as they will be playing in their final regular-season game at the Connor Convocation Center.
