Viking men's basketball defeated at Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. - - Despite Owen Jacobs' 21 points, the Berry College men's basketball team fell to Sewanee, 74-63, on Sunday afternoon.

The loss dropped the Vikings to 5-13 overall and 1-7 in the Southern Athletic Association conference. The win improved the Tigers to 12-7 and 6-2.

Jacobs scored 21 points for BC and was 7-13 shooting. He was also 7-10 from the free throw line and collected 13 rebounds for the Vikings' defense.

Trailing the Tigers for most of the first half, the Vikings went into halftime down 32-23. However, as they picked up their play during the second half, Sewanee only outscored them by two points (42-40)--leading to a 74-63 final score.

Two other players posted double digit points in the loss: Tyler Harville and Zack Chaykowsky.

Chaykowsky was 6-14 shooting and 3-8 from beyond the 3-point line. Chaykowsky was also 3-4 from the free throw line and had two steals for the Vikings. Harville scored 10 points in the loss and was 6-7 from the free throw line.

For Sewanee, Jorden Williams put up 20 points in the win. Williams was 6-13 shooting, and he also made four 3-point shots for the Tigers.

Although BC led in points in the paint (24-20), Sewanee outshot Berry 42.9% (21-49) to 37.0% (20-54).

The Vikings will take on Birmingham-Southern College in their next game at home on Friday, February 6, at 8 p.m.​
