UT Dallas senior Rafael Farley has been named the American Southwest Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, announced by the league office Monday afternoon. Farley picked up his second league weekly honor, also claiming the distinction on Nov. 24.
A native of Houston, Farley averaged 28.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game as he sparked the Comets to a pair of ASC wins last week. The Klein Forest High School product opened the week with his eighth double-double of the season with 21 points and 12 rebounds as UTD upset ASC-leader Hardin-Simmons (68-62) on the road Monday night. Farley then scored 36 points and added eight rebounds as the Comets outlasted Louisiana College (92-88) in overtime Thursday night.
Farley's performance against LC marked the second time this season he has scored more than 30 points. He has now scored in double figures in all 20 games played this season and currently ranks second in the ASC averaging 22.0 points per game.
The Comets are now 15-6 overall (10-6 in ASC) and sit just two games back of the ASC lead. UTD returns to action Thursday night at LeTourneau before visiting ASC co-leader East Texas Baptist Saturday afternoon.
