Junior Brock Benson scored a game-high 19 points to help the Hope College men's basketball team rally for a 70-64 win at Albion on Saturday.
The 6-foot-8 center from Willowbrook, Illinois (Hinsdale South HS), netted 13 points during the second half to fuel the Flying Dutchmen's comeback from a 35-31 halftime deficit.
Hope improved to 14-7 overall and 7-3 in MIAA play.
Junior guard Ben Gardner of Carmel, Indiana (Carmel HS), chipped in 12 points, including eight after halftime. He went 8-of-9 from the foul line.
The Flying Dutchmen made 24-of-28 free throws and outscored Albion by 13 at the foul line.
Junior Stephen Wittenbach of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Central HS), added nine points off the bench against Albion (10-11, 3-7).
Hope took the lead for good at 49-42 with 11 minutes, 25 seconds remaining on the strength of a 12-2 run that covered five minutes.
The Flying Dutchmen return to action on Wednesday, February 11, when they host Olivet. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m. at DeVos Fieldhouse.
