UW-La Crosse Earns Tenth Straight Win over UW-Superior

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team earned a 70-62 victory over UW-Superior Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Hall.  The Eagles improve to 10-12 overall and 5-8 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Yellowjackets fall to 8-14 overall and 2-11 in the conference.  It is UW-L's 10th straight win over UW-Superior. 

UW-L led 24-22 with 7:07 remaining in the first half when it went on a 19-4 run to end the half and lead 43-26.  The Eagles went five-of-seven from three-point range in the final 6:26 of the half.  Skylar Cameron hit a pair of three-point field goals for UW-L while Johnny Coenen, Sean Wheeler and Clint Rihn each hit one. 

UW-Superior opened the second half scoring the first 15 points to cut UW-L's lead to 43-41 with 14:03 left. The Yellowjackets' Ty Ketz scored nine points in the run as the Eagles missed their first seven shots from the field.  

The Eagles led 55-50 with 7:23 left after a Cameron layup, but the Yellowjackets scored the next six points to lead 56-55 with 6:04 remaining on a pair of Ketz free throws.  Cameron responded with a layup with 5:23 left to give UW-L a one-point lead and the Eagles would never trail again.  Coenen hit one-of-two at the line with 4:37 remaining and Cameron's three-point field goal with 4:17 left made it 61-56. UW-Superior trailed 63-59 with 2:01 remaining when UW-L went on a 7-0 run to lead 70-59. 

UW-L shot 45.7% from the field, including 53.8% (14-of-26) in the first half.  The team shot 41.7% (10-of-24) from three-point range, including 53.3% (eight-of-15) in the first half.  UW-L finished at 81.8% (18-of-22) at the free throw line.

Cameron led the Eagles with 27 points off the bench, finishing eight-of-11 from the field, including five-of-seven from three-point range. He was six-of-six at the line.  Coenen finished with 10 points, four assists and four steals for the Eagles while Tom Jankowski totaled nine points. Jared Staege led UW-L with six rebounds. 

UW-Superior shot 48.8% from the field, including 30.0% (three-of-10) from three-point range, and 85.0% (17-of-20) at the line.  All five starters scored in double figures for the Yellowjackets with Ketz leading the team with 16 points.  Zach Schradle finished with 13 points and Cole Minnich 11 while Caleb Burch and Brian Lindblom each added 10.  Schradle had a game-high eight rebounds. 

UW-L returns to action Wednesday, February 11 hosting UW-Oshkosh at 7 p.m. in the Eagles' regular-season home finale.
