Sophomore Harrison Blackledge scored a team-high 24 points for the Hope College men's basketball team in an 83-77 loss at Calvin on Wednesday in Grand Rapids.
The Flying Dutchmen saw their season-high, six-game win streak snapped in the 190th game in The Rivalry. Hope fell to 13-7 overall and out of a first-place tie in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play with a 6-3 league record.
Hope still leads the all-time series by a 98-92 margin.
Blackledge, the forward from Canton, Ohio (Hoover HS), shot 7-of-12 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free-throw line before fouling out.
Sophomore guard Chad Carlson of Rockford, Michigan (Rockford HS), netted a career-high 14 points while making a season-high four of his seven 3-point attempts.
Junior forward Sam Otto of Wheaton, Illinois (Wheaton North HS), chipped in 11 points off the bench.
Junior center Brock Benson of Willowbrook, Illinois (Hinsdale South HS), contributed eight points and a game-high nine rebounds.
The game featured 15 lead changes and 12 ties.
Hope took its last lead at 71-69 on two Blackledge free throws with 5 ½ minutes remaining. The Flying Dutchmen could not overcome shooting 1-of-8 from the field the rest of the way.
Senior guard Jordan Brink nine of his team-high 27 points for Calvin (14-7, 7-2 MIAA) during this stretch.
Hope returns to action on Saturday, February 7, at Albion. Tipoff is 3 pm.
