BABSON PARK, Mass.—Sophomore Joey Flannery (Acton, Mass.) finished with 21 points and seven rebounds, while senior John Wickey (Manchester, N.H.) added 15 points and five boards as 17th-ranked Babson College defeated visiting Emerson College, 75-50, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Staake Gymnasium.

With its fifth straight win, Babson is now 17-2 overall and 7-1 in conference play, while Emerson falls to 9-9 overall and 3-5 in the NEWMAC.

Flannery went 4-of-7 from the floor and 12-of-15 from the free throw line for the Beavers, who finished 26-of-32 as a team from the charity stripe. Wickey was 7-of-11 from the floor and led all players with 10 first-half points. Sophomore Sam Bohmiller (Franklin, Mass.) scored eight points, senior David Mack (Holden, Mass.) contributed seven points, six rebounds and three blocks, and sophomore Kyle Rodegher (Andover, Conn.) add six late points, all from the free throw line.

Juniors Bryan Hurley (South Boston, Mass.) and Mike Carbone (North Reading, Mass.) each scored eight points to lead the Lions. Classmates Michael Thorpe (Newton, Mass.), Austin Pinckney (Miami, Fla.) and Ryan Clinesmith (New York, N.Y.), all of which average double figures on the year, were held to a combined five points on 2-of-18 shooting.

After giving up a layup to Hurley on the second possession of the game, Babson ripped off a 19-3 run to take control of the game. Flannery and Bohmiller combined for 13 early points, and a jumper by Wickey gave the hosts a 14-point lead just 7:59 into the contest.

Emerson cut its deficit to 19-7 on Pinckney's only hoop of the game, but Beavers' first-yearJohn Moutopoulos (Glenmont, N.Y.) scored in transition, Wickey added a layup, and Mack followed with three free throws to take their biggest advantage of the half at 26-7 with 6:13 to play in the stanza. The Lions missed 19 of their first 22 shots, and the Green and White got six late points from Wickey to take a 37-22 lead into the locker room.

Babson opened the second half with a 15-0 run over the first 4:29 to put the game away. Flannery scored three quick points, Wickey buried a three-pointer off a skip pass from seniorEric Dean (Gilford, N.H.), and then gathered a Dean miss and put it in for a 45-22 lead. Mack scored in the lane on the Beavers' next trip, and Flannery followed with five more points, including an acrobatic layup to make it 52-22 with 15:31 to play.

Emerson got as close as 23 with on a pair of free throws by Hurley with 11:22 remaining, but the Green and White answered with a 13-5 run to take its biggest lead of the game. Nine of Babson's 13 points came from the free throw line during the spurt, including four straight from Rodegher to make it 66-35 with 7:15 to go in the contest.

The Beavers shot 41.8 percent (23-of-55) from the floor and outscored the Lions 34-16 in the paint. The Green and White also scored 20 points off 13 Emerson turnovers, and held a 46-34 edge on the glass.

The Lions shot just 30 percent (18-of-60) from the floor, and were just 5-of-18 from beyond the arc.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday as Babson travels to Wheaton at 8 p.m., while Emerson hosts nationally-ranked WPI at 7 p.m.

GAME NOTES: The Beavers are now 16-2 all-time against Emerson have won six of the last seven meetings going back to 2008…Babson is 10-2 at home this season and has won 21 of its last 25 at Staake Gymnasium going back to 2013…the Beavers are 16-1 when outrebounding their opponents this winter…Babson has also won 21 straight games when outscoring its foes from the free throw line…Wickey made his 100th career start on Saturday against the Lions, and also became just the sixth player in program history to surpass 1,200 points and 600 rebounds.
