RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini men's basketball team used a dominant second half to earn today's 104-69 win over the visiting Centenary College Cyclones. The win improved the Cavaliers to 11-9 overall and 8-5 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, just 0.5 games out of first place.
Today also marked the Blue and White's annual Alumni Day. Today's Cabrini games were sandwiched by the Blue and White alumni games. The women's alumni game opened the day, while the men's game closed the day's action.
Senior Aaron Walton-Moss tallied his fifth triple-double of the season to lead four Cavaliers in double figures. The senior tallied 19 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists to go with three steals and a pair of blocked shots.
Freshman Jair Green added a season high 23 points, including a slew of highlight dunks throughout the night. Fellow rookie Tyheim Monroe paired 18 points, six rebounds and four assists, while senior Vinny Walls added 17 points and four steals.
Despite trailing for much of the opening half, the Cavaliers turned the game around with six minutes left in the opening stanzk. A Walton-Moss steal led to a Green dunk that tied the score at 31. Thirty seconds later, a Walls steal and bucket gave the Blue and White its first lead since the early minutes of the game.
Monroe completed a traditional three point play at the four minute mark put Cabrini ahead for good. The Blue and White used runs of 7-0 and 8-0 to build a 50-40 lead at the break.
The Cyclones climbed to within nine points just minutes into the half before Walton-Moss found Monroe for a jumper that spurred Cabrini to a decisive 19-4 run. Walls hit junor Ace Henry for a three pointer to put the Blue and White ahead 74-50 with 11:38 to play and the Cavaliers were off and running.
Green punctuated the victory with 3:29 to play with a two-handed follow dunk, his fifth rim rattler of the afternoon.
The Cavaliers' 104 points marked a season high, as did the club's 0.584 field goal percentage and 45 made field goals. Cabrini also recorded season high 24 assists with eight players recording at least one.
Defensively, Cabrini held the Cyclones to 42.9% shooting, including just 34.4% in the second half. The Cavaliers outscored Centenary 54-29 after the halftime break. The Blue and White also committed a season low nine personal fouls.
In just his second career start, sophomore Ryan Charity scored 10 points and grabbed five boards, while Henry and sophomore Ronny Paden added six points each.
Freshman Myles McLeod led Centenary (9-9, 6-5 CSAC) with 16 points, while freshman Rashaan Spencer added 15 in the loss.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Wednesday, when they welcome Baptist Bible College (2-17, 1-11 CSAC) to Nerney Field House. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
Four Cavaliers scored in double figures in the Blue and White's 97-60 win at Baptist Bible on Jan. 5. Walls hit a career high six three pointers in the first half en route to a 31 point night, to go with six rebounds and a pair of steals. Green added 16 points on 8-11 shooting and seven boards. Monroe and sophomore Sean Mayo also combined for 25 rebounds in the victory.
