LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Senior Breven Lyons and sophomore Khory Moorecombined efforts in an impressive scoring show in the first half of Wednesday's men's basketball game at Randolph College to lead No. 11 Virginia Wesleyan College to an 82-74 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory.

The duo scored 33 points in the final 10:25 of the half to lead the Marlins to a 46-36 lead at the break. Three-point shooting dominated the effort as Lyons (Newport News/Warwick) connected on a career-high seven treys to score a career-high 21 points.  He posted a 7-of-10 effort from three-point range overall. Moore (Arlington/Wakefield School), who hit 4-or-8 triples, led all scoring with 29 points.

Sophomore Andre' Banks (Chesapeake/Great Bridge)contributed to the long range showing with a career-best three triples in six attempts, all in the second half, as VWC produced its second highest three-point effort of the season.  The Marlins, who entered the game as the ODAC leader in triples made per game, added to that average by drilling through 15-of-35 attempts.  Randolph, which averaged 8.2 triples each outing, hit 4-of-10.

That  long-range shooting helped the Marlins (15-3, 7-2) to put an end to a fast start by the host WildCats (10-8, 4-5), who led 14-3 in the first five minutes. Lyons connected on four straight triples to spark the comeback, and nailed another trey with 3:49 remaining in the half to put the Marlins in front 33-31 and give VWC the lead for the remainder of the game.

Corey Brown (Williamsburg/Walsingham), Reid Jacoby (Richmond/Benedictine), and Ryan Fields (Edgewood, Md./Loyola Blakefield) emerged with timely scoring to ignite a Randolph second-half rally that pulled the 'Cats within a 58-54 score with 9:20 remaining, but that's where it ended.  Moore nailed a jumper and Banks followed with a triple to help put VWC back on track. VWC led 69-57 after Moore drilled through a triple with 4:53 on the clock. The WildCats never got closer than seven points the rest of the way.

VWC finished with a 36-27 advantage in rebounding, led by senior Greg Montgomery (Virginia Beach/Princess Anne), who pulled down a game-high 13. He also finished with a game-high five assists. The Marlins produced 15 assists overall, including four from sophomore Tim Jones(Richmond/Henrico).

Zach Desgain (Richmond/J.R. Tucker) led Randolph with 19 points, followed by Gordon Rogo (McLean/McLean) with 16.

Virginia Wesleyan competes again on Saturday, Jan. 31, hosting the Maroons of Roanoke College in ODAC competition beginning at 2 p.m.
