CAMDEN, N.J. – Five Pioneers were in double figures in scoring as the William Paterson men's basketball team (16-2, 10-1 NJAC) cruised to a 92-73 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) victory at Rutgers-Camden (9-9, 3-8 NJAC) Jan. 24. The 11th straight win for WP also kept the Pioneers tied with Richard Stockton (10-1 NJAC) for the top spot in the league standings.
Junior guard/forward Terik Bridgeman (Harlem, N.Y./Nia Prep) finished with 19 points, nine rebounds and four assists, and senior guard Sandy Burgos (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) had 19 tallies and a team-best five assists. Junior guard Bright Mensah (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) contributed 17 points and four assists, senior guard Jaques Conceicao (Massama-Lisboa, Portugal/Francais Charle Lepierre) had 12 tallies and a game-high four steals, and sophomore guard Turrell McClendon (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway Tech) posted 12 points. All 10 WP players who saw time on the court got into the scoring column.
William Paterson made 14 of its first 24 (.583) field-goal attempts en route to a 40-28 halftime advantage, then used a 28-8 second-half run to open up its biggest lead of the game at 68-43 with 10:22 remaining. The Pioneers shot 50.0 (10-20) percent from beyond the arc against the Scarlet Raptors and 58.5 (31-53) percent from the field overall.
Sophomore guard Marcus Taylor led Rutgers-Camden with 20 points, and senior guard/forward Alex Smart had 17 tallies and 10 rebounds.
William Paterson will visit New Jersey City Saturday, Jan. 28, at 8:00 p.m.
