NEW LONDON, Conn.—Sophomore Joey Flannery (Acton, Mass.) paced four players in double figures with a game-high 21 points as 20th-ranked Babson College defeated the Coast Guard Academy, 81-73, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Roland Hall.

With its third straight win, Babson is now 15-2 overall and tied for first place in the conference at 5-1. Coast Guard, which has dropped five consecutive games, falls to 5-12 overall and 1-5 in the NEWMAC.

Senior John Wickey (Manchester, N.H.) finished with 17 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals, while classmate Eric Dean (Gilford, N.H.) recorded his fourth double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to go along with a game-high five steals. Sophomore Sam Bohmiller (Franklin, Mass.) added 10 points, and senior David Mack (Holden, Mass.) and first-year Bradley Jacks (Fort Washington, Md.) each scored eight points apiece.

First-year Darius Adams (Nassau, Bahamas) led the Bears with 17 points and seven rebounds. Senior Eli Sponseller (North Pole, Alaska) and junior Ricky Rodriguez (Caracas, Venezuela) both had 11 points, while senior David Anderson (Goose Creek, S.C.) finished with 10 points and seven boards.

Trailing 9-8 after a Rodriguez three-pointer with 14:54 to go in the first half, Babson ripped off a 12-1 run to take control of the game. Flannery and Bohmiller both knocked down treys, and Dean added four points, including a putback, to make it 20-10 with 10:48 to go in the stanza.

Flannery gave the Beavers' their biggest lead of the period at 28-13 with just under seven minutes to go, and the Green and White scored on seven of its final nine possessions of the half to take a 41-30 lead into the locker room.

Coast Guard cut its deficit to single digits on three occasions in the first three minutes of the second half, the last coming on a jumper by Adams to make it 45-36. Babson responded with a 10-1 run though, as back-to-back three-pointers by Bohmiller and Dean, followed by layups from Wickey and Dean made it 55-37 with 14:51 to play.

Anderson drained a trey to bring the Bears back within 66-51 at the 9:05 mark, but Jacks answered with a hoop and sophomore Matthew Droney (Canton, Mass.) followed free throws by Flannery and Mack with a jumper to give the Beavers' their biggest lead of the afternoon at 74-53 with 6:34 left in the contest.

Babson went without a field goal over the final six and a half minutes but knocked down seven late free throws to seal the victory.

The Green and White shot 46.4 percent (26-of-56) from the field and were 8-of-17 from beyond the arc. The Beavers' held a 36-30 edge on the glass and scored 26 points off 16 Coast Guard turnovers.

The Bears shot 45.1 percent (23-of-51) from the floor and went 20-of-25 at the free throw line, but finished just 7-of-21 from three-point range.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday as Babson hosts Clark at 5:30 p.m., while Coast Guard travels to WPI for a 7 p.m. tip-off.

GAME NOTES: The Beavers are 47-26 all-time against Coast Guard, and have won eight straight in the series going back to 2011…Babson is 7-0 on the road this season and has won 11 consecutive true road games going back to last season…with 14 points on Saturday Dean has now reached double figures in scoring in seven consecutive games…Wickey has reached double figures in 20 of the last 21 games…Flannery, who leads the NEWMAC in scoring, recorded 20 points or more for the 20th time in his career in the victory.
