New York, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team had four starters score in double figures to help power the Bulldogs to an 86-68 victory over the Beavers of The City College of New York (CCNY) on Wednesday night at Nat Holman Gymnasium in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action.

With the win, BC improves to 15-3 overall on the season and 7-2 in the CUNYAC to remain in the hunt for home court advantage for the quarterfinals round of the conference championships that begin next month. CCNY falls to 6-10 overall on the year and 1-8 in conference play with the loss.

The win gives BC the regular season sweep over City College, as the Bulldogs defeated the Beavers, 96-70, back on November 25th at the West Quad Center.

The 15 wins this season for first-year head coach Rich Micallef sets a program record for most wins by a head coach in their first season. Stafford Conner led BC to a 14-7 record in his first season in 1934-35.

Juniors Egzon Gjonbalaj and Jamel Gist each scored 16 points to lead Brooklyn. Gjonbalaj also added seven assists, seven rebounds, two steals and a block to his stat line, while Gist pulled down six rebounds. Junior Lorenzo Williams recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while senior Jai Kellman also chipped in with 15 points, to go along with seven assists and five rebounds.

Senior Enees Nikovic (nine points and five rebounds) and Dennis Balsam (eight points) had solid contributions off the bench.

Khalil Hamer led all scorers with 25 points, while Anthony Lewis finished with 16 points and nine rebounds. David Solano added 11 points.

Following a three-pointer from Kellman that opened the scoring, CCNY's Robert Machecek answered with a layup and free throw to tie the game at 3-3 at the 18:26 mark of the first half. However, that's as close as the Beavers would get to taking the lead as the Bulldogs would score the next seven points to go ahead 10-7 with 16:10 left in the half. BC would eventually balloon its advantage to double figures en route to building a 44-34 halftime lead.

Brooklyn would continue to build on its lead throughout the second half as the Beavers would be unable to recover from its deficit. The Bulldogs would go on to cruise to its 86-68 win.

For the game, BC shot 49.2% (31-for-63) from the field and just 25.0% (5-for-20) from three. Brooklyn also shot 65.5% (19-for-29) from the free throw line.

CCNY shot 41.0% (25-for-61) from the field and 35.3% (6-for-17) from beyond the arc. The Beavers shot 70.6% (12-for-17) from the line.

BC won the battle of the glass out-rebounding the City College, 45-31.

Brooklyn will be back in action this Friday, January 23rd, as the Bulldogs will host the Bloodhounds of John Jay College of Criminal Justice in another key CUNYAC matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:15 pm. BC will look to sweep another season series, as Brooklyn defeated John Jay, 84-74, back on December 6th.
