Hope Men's Basketball Fends Off Alma For 75-63 MIAA Win

Brock Benson recorded his second double-double of the season as the Hope College men's basketball team defeated Alma College 75-63 on Wednesday.

The junior center from Willowbrook, Illinois (Hinsdale South HS), totaled a game-high 20 points and a season-high 12 rebounds in front of a DeVos Fieldhouse crowd of 2,089.

The Flying Dutchmen improved to 10-6 overall with their third consecutive win. They are now 3-2 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association paly.

Three other Hope players scored in double figures on "Orange Out" Fan Appreciation night.

Sophomore forward Harrison Blackledge netted 18 points, while junior guard Alex Eidson of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS), chipped in 13.

Eidson sank a halfcourt shot at the halftime buzzer to extend the Flying Dutchmen's lead to 41-31.

Junior guard Ben Gardner of Carmel, Indiana (Carmel HS), added 12 points. Hope's starters combined for 69 points against Alma, which fell to 4-12 overall and 2-3 in MIAA play. 

The Flying Dutchmen outscored Alma 23-11 at the foul line with 29 attempts to the Scots' 16.

Benson led Hope by sinking 10 of his 11 free-throw attempts. Blackledge went 8-of-12.

The Flying Dutchmen return to action on Saturday, Jan. 24 at Kalamazoo. Tipoff is 1 p.m.
