THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – Behind the first career triple-double from senior Sean Corley (Harlem, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall Academy), a career-best 28 points from rookie John Liccese (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman), and the third-straight double-double from sophomore Isaiah Hayes (Jamaica, N.Y./Queens Teaching), the Maritime men's basketball team knocked off the Mount St. Mary Knights by the score of 81-67 on Tuesday evening from the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium.

Corley ended the night with 10 points, 13 assists, and 11 rebounds as he led the Privateers in assists and was also tied with Hayes for the team-high in rebounds. Hayes registered his third-straight double-double as he finished the night with 15 points to go along with his rebound total.

For Liccese, the rookie went 9-of-14 from the floor, including 5-8 from the land of the three to lead all scorers in 31 minutes of play. Also in double-figures in points was senior T'Vaughn Gibson (Freeport, Bahamas/Sunland Baptist Academy), who ended the night collecting 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting.

The night began with a three-pointer from Mount St. Mary, but the Privateers answered right after with a jumper from Hayes. Gibson followed up with a three-pointer and gave Maritime its first lead of the game and followed that up with a dunk after causing a turnover.

Maritime stretched its lead to 10 points as freshman Patrick MacDonald (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) hit the back end of two free throws. After Mount St. Mary trimmed the lead to 27-14, Maritime rolled out six unanswered points as Hayes, MacDonald and Corley all found the bottom of the cylinder. At the end of the half, Liccese sank three shots from the free-throw line to send Maritime into the locker room with a 44-28 advantage.

In the second half, the Knights stormed out of the gates with 11 straight points to trim the Privateer lead to five. Sophomore Brendon Halligan (Durham, N.Y./Cairo-Durham) got in on the scoring action with a clutch three-pointer to stem the tide, but Mount St. Mary answered with a three-pointer of its own. The Privateers then went on a 10-0 run to regain some breathing room as Maritime got points from Corley, Halligan and Liccese.

The Privateers ballooned their lead up to 17 points on four separate occasions in the waning minutes and took a 79-66 lead into the final minute of regulation. Following a made free-throw from Mount St. Mary, sophomore Bobby Parlow (Bay Head, N.J./Point Pleasant Beach) connected on a pair of shots with 56 seconds to go to cap off the scoring at 81-67.

As a team Maritime had its second-best shooting night of the season as the team was 46.7% from the field, the team also reached its second-best night in terms of three-pointers made with eight through the 40 minute contest. The team also had its best passing night of the season with 21 helpers combined on the evening.
