Keystone Claims Thrilling Win at Cabrini, 95-93

Radnor, PA – Tyreek Peeples (Philadelphia, PA/Girard College) and Duncan Lunsford (Marietta, GA/Sprayberry) combined for 46 points and Keystone College converted a season-high 19 three-pointers to earn a thrilling, 95-93 victory over defending conference champion Cabrini College in Colonial States Athletic Conference men's basketball action on Monday evening.  The Giants improve to 4-10 overall and level their CSAC record at 4-4 with the key league win while the Cavaliers fall to 9-7 on the season and 6-3 in conference action.     
 
Cabrini took their largest lead of the first half at 20-15 with 12:40 remaining in the period before Keystone netted the game's next five points to level the contest.  The two teams remained within a single possession of one another over the next five minutes.  With the Cavaliers holding a 34-31 edge at the 6:39 mark, James Cooper (Effort, PA/Pius X) hit a three-pointer that started an 8-0 run by the Giants that gave the hosts a 39-34 advantage with 4:38 left on the clock.
 
Cabrini worked their way back in front, 42-41, before Lunsford connected from downtown with just over a minute remaining in the opening stanza and Keystone would take a 46-42 lead into halftime after Jesse Longmire (Harlem, NY/John S. Burke Catholic) converted a pair of free throws with 16 seconds left.
 
Peeples paced the Giants with 12 points and six assists in the opening 20 minutes of play while Lunsford finished the period with 11 points and Cooper netted eight points.  As the team, Keystone shot 50 percent from the floor in the first frame while going 11-22 from three-point land and 3-5 from the free throw line.
 
Jair Green led all scorers in the first half with 14 points while Aaron Walton-Moss contributed 11 points and six helpers for Cabrini, who shot 51.6 percent from the field in the stanza while going 7-18 from downtown and 3-4 from the stripe.
 
Cabrini outscored Keystone 15-6 over the first four minutes of the second half to claim a 57-52 lead, but the Giants continued to battle and claimed 62-61 edge with 11:22 left in regulation when Lunsford connected from long range.  The two sides then went bucket for bucket over the next three and a half minutes before the Cavaliers were able to open up a 77-69 advantage with 6:30 remaining.
 
Trailing 77-71 with 5:12 remaining in regulation, Keystone used 9-2 run to go back to the point, 80-79, when Deion Monroe (Kingston, NY/Kingston ) canned a trey with 3:57 left on the clock.  The Giants would open up an 86-81 lead at the 2:42 mark on a Longmire three-pointer.  Cabrini cut their deficit to two-points before Rashaud Kelley (Sharon, PA/Paul Laurence Dunbar) went 1-2 from the free throw line before Longmire sunk another trey to give the visitors a 90-84 advantage with 1:33 left on the clock.   
 
Cabrini scored the next four points to make it a two-point game before Dan Candemeres (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) made a pair from the free throw line with 16 seconds remaining to give Keystone a 92-88 edge.  Walton-Moss scored on a layup at the other end to again cut the host's deficit to two points before Peeples made a pair from the line to push the Giants' lead to 94-90.  Walton-Moss then hit a three-pointer with four seconds remaining before Peeples hit the backend of a pair of free throws to make it a 95-93 game in favor of the Giants, who sealed the victory by preventing the hosts from getting off potentially decisive shot.
 
Lunsford finished with a team-high 25 points to go along with six assists for Keystone while Peeples netted a season-high 21 points and a team-best seven assists in the win.  DaVaughn Roberts-Thomas (Port Arthur, TX/Silsbee) netted 12 points and Candemeres contributed 10 points for the Giants, who connected on 50.8 percent of their attempts from the floor for the game while going 19-37 from beyond the arc and 14-20 from the free throw line.
 
Roberts-Thomas and Kelley tied for the Keystone team-lead with seven rebounds apiece while Candemeres also added five assists.
 
Walton-Moss paced Cabrini with a double-double on game-highs of 29 points and 10 assists while Green finished with 22 points in the loss.  Tyheim Monroe tallied 13 points and Howard Blake III netted 10 points for the Cavaliers, who shot 52.9 percent from the field for the contest while going 11-30 from beyond the arc and 58.8 percent from the line for the game.
 
Keystone will be back in action on Wednesday evening when they visit Marywood University for a CSAC tilt that is scheduled to tipoff at 7:00 p.m. in Scranton.
