(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College men's basketball team fell, 81-67, to Saint Vincent College today (Saturday, January 17, 2015) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the loss, the Saints fall to 10-6 overall and 5-2 in the PAC. With the win, the Bearcats improve to 12-4 overall and 7-0 in the PAC.
Saint Vincent raced out to a 22-11 lead with 9:41 to play in the first half when Bobby Swartwout made a three-pointer. Thomas More answered with a 14-10 run capped by a three-pointer by Daniel Williams (Louisville, Ky./Jeffersontown) to cut the lead to 32-25 with 2:37 to play in the half. Saint Vincent closed out the half on an 8-2 run to take a 40-27 lead at halftime.
The Bearcats opened the second half on a 23-10 run to increase the lead to 63-37 with 11:14 to play in the game when Dan Sinwell made a lay-up. Thomas More responded with a 28-12 run to cut the lead to 75-65 when freshman forward Cameron Fitts (Spencer County, Ky./Spencer County) with 2:40 to play in the game. That would be as close as Thomas More could come as Saint Vincent closed out the game on a 6-2 run for the 81-67 victory.
Senior forward Drew Mumford (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy) led all scorers with 23 points. He was joined in double-figure scoring by sophomore guard/forward Nate McGovney (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) with 11 points and senior forward Jalen Clark (Frankfort, Ky./Western Hills) with 10 points. McGovney and Clark led the team in rebounds with six each , while McGovney, senior guard Eliot Pipes (Nashville, Tenn./Hillsboro) and freshman forward Austin Young (Campbellsburg, Ky./Henry County) led the team in assists with three each.
Thomas More returns to action on Tuesday (January 20) when it travels to Grove City, Pennsylvania to play Grove City College. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. inside the Grove City College Arena.
