TOWSON, Md. – Four players scored in double figures and Elizabethtown turned a 13-point halftime lead into a rout with a 29-9 run in the second half, winning its third straight game, 71-48, at Goucher Saturday night.

In the Blue Jays' last two wins, they rode the back of Tyler Simpkiss to do a large chunk of the scoring. Simpkiss connected for 27 points against Moravian a week ago and was even better in a 30-point performance Wednesday against Drew.

Saturday was a different story, however, as the offensive wealth was spread around.

Elizabethtown (7-9, 5-3 Landmark) got eight first half points from Joe Bodnar, who returned to the lineup after a two-game abscence. Matt Lapkowicz had seven and Josh Eden six as the Blue Jays built a 35-22 lead.

Bodnar was able to get back in the flow rather quickly canning two of his team's five 3-pointers in the first half. While the Blue Jays couldn't quite replicate their shooting prowess from four nights earlier, going 5-of-14 (35.7%) from downtown in the opening half was good enough to separate them from a Goucher side that misfired on all five of its attempts.

Matt Lapkowicz's layup 6:41 before the half gave E-town its first double-digit lead, 25-14. The Gophers (3-13, 2-5 Landmark) inched back within seven on a Brian Ball jumper at the 2:13 mark, but Bodnar and Simpkiss hit threes to end the half and the visitors never trailed by less than 10 the rest of the way.

The Blue Jays erased any doubt of the outcome with a huge 29-9 run that lasted more than 10 minutes. Lee Eckert and Jake Sweger each scored eight of their team-high 12 points as Elizabethtown expanded its lead to 66-36 with 8:43 remaining.

Simpkiss, tied with Eckert and Sweger for team-high honors with 12 points, collected seven during the run. Bodnar gave the blue and gray four players in double figures with 10 points.

Eckert also had eight rebounds for the visitors, who outrebounded Goucher 45-29. Lapkowicz finished with nine points, Eden had eight points, five boards and four assists, and and Evan Hathaway went for five points and five rebounds.

The Gophers had 12 players score points, but none reached double digits. Chris Outing's eight came closest.

Elizabethtown's win is its second in a row by 20 points or more. The Blue Jays were coming off a 97-76 victory over Drew. The 23-point marging of victory is also E-town's second largest this season and the three-game winning streak is its second of the year.

A rare Monday date on the calendar is next for the Blue Jays as they head north to Merchant Marine for a Martin Luther King Day matinee at 4 p.m.
