SCRANTON, Pa. – Senior Aaron Walton-Moss recorded his third triple-double of the season, as the Cabrini men's basketball team escaped with an 86-82 win at Marywood University. The victory improved the Cavaliers to 8-6 overall and 5-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
Walton-Moss played the entire 40 minutes to lead a short-handed Blue and White club, posting 25 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists and four steals. The guard also moved into fifth place on Cabrini's all-time scoring list with 1,381 points.
Walton-Moss also connected on all 15 of his free throw attempts, marking just the third time in program history a Cavalier has been perfect from the charity stripe with at least 10 attempts. He was also one made free throw from the program record of 16 made free throws in a game.
With just seven players dressed for tonight's action, the Cavaliers got significant contributions from everyone in the win. Junior Ace Henry connected on 6-9 from three point range for 18 points, while senior Howard Blake III tallied 16 points and six rebounds.
Freshman Jair Green added 13 points, while sophomore Ryan Charity grabbed nine boards.
Cabrini fell behind in the early minutes, as Marywood built a 10-2 lead just three minutes into the game. The Cavaliers found their footing, using a 10-0 run to take its first lead with 14 minutes left in the half.
Consecutive triples by Henry and freshman Kane McGovern spurred Cabrini to a 17-0 run before five consecutive points by Charity put the Blue and White ahead 34-17 with 6:17 on the clock.
A Walton-Moss lay-up at the halftime buzzer sent the Cavaliers into the locker room with a 50-30 halftime lead.
Cabrini maintained its comfortable lead most of the second half, extending it to a game-high 25 points on a Henry three pointer with 10:45 to play.
The game turned drastically over the next 4:50 as Marywood used a 30-6 run, cutting its deficit to 73-72 with less than six minutes on the clock.
The Cavaliers held a slim lead for the next three minutes until a Pacers' three point play put Marywood ahead. The teams exchanged buckets before Henry found Green for a lay-up with 87 seconds on the clock, putting Cabrini ahead for good.
McGovern finished the night with five points and five rebounds in his first career start, while sophomore Sean Mayo paired four points and five boards.
The Blue and White connected on a season high 88.9 percent from the free throw line, hitting each of its first 24 on the night.
Shane Kellaher led the Pacers (8-6, 3-4 CSAC) with 31 points, while Alex Barr added 15 points. James Curley tallied 11 points, while Cameron Dean paired eight points with a team-high 10 rebounds.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Saturday, as Rosemont (7-7, 5-2 CSAC) visits Nerney Field House at 4 p.m. The Ravens handed Cabrini its first CSAC loss on January 3, topping the Blue and White 85-78.
