Frontcourt Duo Powers Hope Past Albion

HOLLAND, Mich. – Frontcourt players Brock Benson and Harrison Blackledge combined for 22 of Hope College's 53 second half points as the Flying Dutchmen pulled away for an 80-55 victory over Albion College in Wednesday night Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's basketball action.

Benson's dunk ignited a 9-0 run as Hope forged a 40-29 lead with 14 ½ minutes left. Hope shot 65 percent from the field in the second half as it never let Albion make a run.

Travell Oakes scored 10 of his 15 points in the second half, but he was the only Albion player to score in double figures. Oakes scored on 6 of 7 shots from the field and he pulled down seven rebounds.

Three Hope starters scored in double figures. Benson led all players with 21 points, scoring on 8 of 11 shots from the field. Ben Gardner led the backcourt with 16 and Benson chipped in with 12.

Albion returns to the friendly confines of Kresge Gymnasium at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon to take on Adrian College.
