CRESSON, Pa. – Four Panthers scored in double figures and the Pitt-Bradford men's basketball team blew past the Mount Aloysius Mounties 98-73 to complete a weekend sweep of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponents.
Junior Eric Matheson continued a stellar run this season by scoring a game-high 24 points with one rebound and five assists. Matheson finished the game 4-for-4 from three-point range.
Senior Keith Burgess picked up where he left off in Saturday's victory with 23 points, two rebounds and six assists. Burgess also racked up five steals. Senior Lucas Pichette finished with 17 points, seven rebounds and one assist while manning the paint. Pichette was a perfect 3-for-3 from the charity stripe.
Sophomore Manny Welch accumulated a total of 11 points to go with three rebounds, all defensive. Welch finished his night shooting 3-for-4 from the line.
Pitt-Bradford (7-6, 4-2) actually opened the contest trailing for the first two minutes of action. A three from Matheson, his first of the afternoon, swung the momentum in the Panthers' favor and they didn't look back. Mount Aloysius (6-8, 4-3) trailed for the remainder of the outing.
The Panthers claimed a 48-39 lead at the break and outshot the Mounties 48.4 percent to 45.2. From the line, Pitt-Bradford was 12-of-15 and the Mounties were 10-of-11.
In the second period, Pitt-Bradford owned a double-digit lead for almost the entire duration of the game. Its advantage reached a total of 29 points with just over four minutes to play and the Panthers wrapped up a strong weekend of conference showdowns.
Moving forward, Pitt-Bradford receives two days rest before traveling to face D'Youville on Wednesday, Jan. 14. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. in Buffalo, N.Y.
