SEWANEE, Tenn. (Jan. 9, 2015) – Despite Southern Athletic Association (SAA) leading scorer Jorden Williamsstruggling from the field, the Sewanee men's basketball showed it still had plenty of firepower, Friday, as the Tigers hammered Millsaps, 60-43, inside Juhan Gymnasium.
Sewanee is now 7-5 overall and more importantly 2-0 in league play. The Tigers are also now 4-1 at home this season.
After a back and forth first half, Sewanee took command of the game early in second. En route to making 56 percent of its attempts the final 20 minutes, Sewanee opened the second half on an 11-3 run.
During that stretch, Clay Born scored five points whileKeshonn Carter added four. After a timeout by Millsaps, The Tigers kept attacking. A jumper by Jacob McCulloughand a three by Matt Tome pushed Sewanee's lead to 12, 40-28.
The Tigers would eventually lead by as much as 21 with 4:35 to play.
Despite struggling from outside the three-point line, Sewanee still made a season-high 51.0 percent of its overall attempts. The Tigers also outrebounded Millsaps, 36-24.
All 13 players saw action for Sewanee with Carter leading the way with 16 points and six rebounds. McCullough also played well with a career-high 10 points while Born pitched in a season-high eight points. In fact, all but three players scored for Sewanee.
Forward Josh McSwain led Millsaps with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Sewanee continues SAA play with a 3:00 p.m. contest against rival Birmingham-Southern on Sunday.
