NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Sophomore forward Andrew Seniuk (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) drained a 3-pointer with five seconds left in regulation, which sealed the State University of New York at New Paltz men's basketball team's 57-55 win over The College at Brockport in the Hawks' first home game of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) schedule Friday night at the Hawk Center.

The Hawks' final possession began with 50 seconds left on the clock, as they forced the Golden Eagles into a shot-clock violation. Following a timeout, New Paltz misfired on a 3-point attempt, but sophomore guard Eric Regenbogen (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) came up with a crucial offensive board to maintain possession with the shot clock turned off.

After a missed shot that got blocked out of bounds, the Hawks called one more timeout to draw up the final play. New Paltz fed the ball down low to senior guard/forward Taylor Sowah (Bronx, N.Y./Miller Place), who was swarmed by Brockport defenders, but Sowah threaded a pass through traffic to Seniuk, who sat all alone in the left corner. Seniuk then buried a 3-point basket to give the Hawks a two-point lead.

Brockport opted not to call a timeout, and sophomore guard Aaron White misfired on a contested trey as time expired to secure the Hawks' victory.

New Paltz rises to 5-6 overall and 3-1 in the SUNYAC with the win. The Hawks return to action tomorrow when they host SUNY Geneseo at 2 p.m. Brockport falls to 5-6 (3-1 SUNYAC) with the loss and visits SUNY Oneonta tomorrow at 2 p.m.

Neither team was able to create much separation all game, with the contest's first big run occurring in the latter portion of the first half. New Paltz went on an 8-0 spurt during that span, with freshman guard/forward Malik Seelal(Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) capping off the tear with an old-fashioned 3-point play with 5:12 before halftime to give the Hawks a 25-19 cushion. Brockport answered with a 7-0 surge and controlled the momentum heading into the locker rooms, with sophomore guard Matthew Smith pushing the Golden Eagles' lead out to three with two seconds left to provide the halftime margin of 34-31.

The Hawks continued to battle for the lead in the early portion of the second half, but Brockport kept countering every blow dealt by New Paltz. The Golden Eagles held the lead up until Regenbogen tied the score at 46-all with 8:06 left in regulation. The two sides kept trading baskets until Seniuk's pivotal 3-pointer late put the Hawks over the top.

Though New Paltz shot just 37.9 percent (22-of-58) from the floor, the Hawks forced the Golden Eagles into 25 turnovers and scored 22 points off them. Brockport finished with a 41-34 advantage in rebounds but was held to 22.2 percent (4-of-18) shooting from beyond the arc.

Senior guard/forward R.J. Rosa (North Branch, N.Y./Sullivan West) followed up his big game against SUNY Cortland from Tuesday with another strong performance, collecting a game-high 19 points, seven steals, four rebounds and two assists. Regenbogen and Sowah each nearly posted double-doubles, with Regenbogen totaling nine points and eight assists and Sowah notching eight points and nine rebounds. Sophomore centerTaylor Mulvey (Rotterdam, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) protected the post with a team-high three blocks.

Brockport received double-figure scoring from sophomore forward Levi Pace (12), White (10) and junior guard/forward Patrick Modzelewski (10), while Pace and Modzelewski each recorded eight rebounds. Junior center Daniel Aiello swatted away four New Paltz shots.
