OLIVET, Mich. – The Adrian College men's basketball team remained positive despite a rough non-conference slate and found themselves down 13 points in the second half at Olivet. That determination fueled a comeback that saw the Bulldogs close the game out on a 35-17 spurt over the last 12:46 for a 74-69 road win in the conference opener for both teams.
Kevin Woodson's triple with 12:46 to play gave the Comets their largest lead of the game. Adrian went on a 18-6 run over the next seven minutes to make it a one-point deficit with 5:46 remaining after a pair of free throws by Rickey Jackson, Jr. The game teetered back and forth over the next three-plus minutes before the Bulldogs took their first lead since late in the first half at 71-69 on a Curtis Gordon basket with 46 seconds left. The Bulldogs turned up the defense as the Comets did not score for the final 2:46 of the game. Jackson, Jr. split at the line with 27 seconds to go and Gordon sealed it with a pair of free throws with 15 seconds left.
Jackson, Jr. finished with 20 points marking the second time he has reached that plateau this season. He shot 7-of-12 from the floor and 6-of-8 at the line with a seven-rebound, five-assist performance. Ben Rodak tied his season high with 16 points going 6-of-10 from the floor including a pair of triples. He snagged six boards in a team high 36 minutes. Gordon finished with 11 points, four rebounds and two assists. It was his fifth double-digit effort of the season. The Bulldogs have now won six of their last eight against Olivet with four of those wins on the road. Adrian came into the game shooting 38.4 percent and stepped up to shoot 46.6 percent including 45.5 percent from the arc (28.1 percent entering today). The Bulldogs had a season best plus-16 edge on the boards with 13 offensive rebounds.
