ALBION, Mich. – Albion College ripped off a 13-0 run over 2 ½ minutes to build a 19-point lead and pull away for a 72-49 victory over Kalamazoo College on the opening night of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's basketball action.
Zach Hurth and Carter Elliott produced two baskets apiece during the rally, and Jordan Herron and Vince Hill added jumpers.
"Kalamazoo was really aggressive in the first half and we didn't respond well," Albion Head Coach Jody May said after his team improved to 8-3 overall. "We had a sense of urgency to get loose balls the first 10 minutes of the second half."
Hurth knocked down a three-point shot on Albion's second possession and the Britons never trailed, though the score was tied a 3-3 for nearly two minutes. Albion led by as many as seven in the first half, but it settled for a 27-24 lead at halftime.
Briton Notes
Four starters scored in double figures for the Britons. Herron led the way with 14, and he fell a rebound shy of a double-double. Hurth finished with 13, Elliott 12, and Corey Wheeler 10.
Albion shot 50 percent (10-of-20) from 3-point range, the third time it has made at least half of its attempts from long distance this season. Hurth was 3-of-4 and Wheeler was 2-of-4.
Kalamazoo shot 13 percent (2-of-15) from 3-point range, matching the season-low for an Albion opponent. Redlands also shot 2-of-15 from long distance.
Kalamazoo shot 33 percent (19-of-58) from the field, the second-worst percentage by an Albion opponent this season.
Josh Miller produced a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds for Kalamazoo. Adam Dykema also finished with 14 points.
