New York, N.Y. – College of Mount Saint Vincent freshman Matthew Sowah (Staten Island, N.Y.) has been named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week in Men's Basketball it was announced by the conference on Monday afternoon. The weekly honor is the first of Sowah's career and fourth for the program this season.
Sowah rounded out a two game stretch for the Dolphins by averaging 7.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game as the Mount went 1-1. He shot 46.2-percent (6-for-13) from the floor and added a blocked shot.
To open the week, Sowah totaled three points, five rebounds and a block in a 71-66 non-conference loss to York on December 29 and then scored a career-high 11 points to go along with four rebounds and three steals in a 61-45 Skyline Conference victory over Farmingdale State on Saturday. Against the Rams, Sowah went 5-for-9 from the floor and knocked in the only free-throw he attempted.
With the split last week, Mount Saint Vincent stands at 7-2 overall on the season and 3-0 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Dolphins is a league date with Sage on Wednesday night. The Dolphins and Gators with tip-off at 7:00 p.m. at the Peter Jay Sharp Center.
