Grinnell men's basketball team snaps 3-game losing streak with victory over Lawrence

GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College men's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak Saturday afternoon, topping Lawrence University 126-116 at Darby Gymnasium.
 
Jack Taylor '15 scored 21 points to lead the Pioneers, who are 3-3 in the Midwest Conference and 5-6 overall. Braedon Bayer'18 added 18 points, with 15 of those coming in the second half, and also came up with five assists and three steals.
 
Luke Yeager '15 had 16 points, Ikaika Phillip '18 tallied 15 and Tague Zachary '15 scored 11. Nick Curta '17 grabbed seven rebounds.
 
Trace Sonnleitner scored 23 points for the Vikings, who fell to 2-3 in the MWC and 4-6 in all games.
 
Grinnell led by as many as 16 points in the first half before settling for a 63-54 lead at intermission.
 
But Lawrence raced back in the second stanza and went up by as many as eight with 10:10 left.
 
The Vikings still led by six with 7:59 remaining when Grinnell went on a huge 11-point run to take command for good. Matt Jasaitis '18 began the rally with a trey, Curta added a layup and Julian Marx '17 recorded a 3-pointer to put Grinnell on top 101-99 with 7:06 remaining.
 
Yeager added a trey with 6:45 left to put the Pioneers ahead by five points. Lawrence came within three after that, but Zachary made a layup and 3-pointer to push the lead back to eight.
 
Lawrence never got closer than seven after that as Grinnell cruised to the win.
 
The Pioneers return to Darby Gymnasium next Saturday to host Ripon College in MWC action. Game time is 3 p.m.
