More news about: UW-Superior

After winning their second game in a row last night, the Yellowjackets didn't have much time to enjoy it because they were right back on the court Tuesday night to face Luther College (Iowa). After trailing at halftime last night, Superior flipped the script and jumped out to a big lead in the first half. but Luther roared back in the second half. In the end, however, it was Superior who stayed the course and prevailed with a 67-61 victory and a 2-0 record in The Dells.

Superior held Luther to 36% shooting from the field in the first half, while Superior shot 55.6% to build a 14-point halftime lead, 40-26. For the second night in a row, Superior was on fire from three-point land. They went 8-for-12 in the first half, and three-pointers accounted for more than half of their field-goal makes.

However, in the second half, Superior struggled from the field. Luther held the Yellowjackets to 7-of-26 from the field, while they went 13-of-35 themselves. What helped Superior secure the victory was the amount of free-throws they attempted in the second half. While Luther attempted six free-throws, Superior went to the line 18 times. Superior made 11 of those 18 attempts, and made 13 for the game.

Once again, Superior kept the turnovers low. After committing only four turnovers last night, Superior one-upped that total tonight. They turned the ball over five times to Luther's nine. Superior had 13 assists.

Ty Ketz (Clayton, Wis./Clayton) led the three-point charge for Superior, and led the Yellowjackets in scoring. He drilled five three-pointers, going 5-7, and accounted for 17 of the Yellowjackets' 67 points. He also led the Yellowjackets with six rebounds. Johnquez Brooks (North Las Vegas, Nev./Valley) and Zach Schradle (Clayton, Wis./Clayton) were the other two Yellowjackets in double-figures, with 15 and 11, respectively. While he didn't score a single point, Taylor Mattison (Sturgeon Lake, Minn./Moose Lake-Willow River) recorded a game-high three steals.

Nathan Meyer led Luther with 15 points.

With the victory, Superior moves to 7-5 on the season with a big conference game looming on Saturday. Superior will take on UW-Oshkosh, at home beginning at 3:00 p.m. Superior has won three of the last four meetings between the two teams.
