Patchogue, NY- The Men's Basketball team earned their first victory of the 2014-15 season, with a win over the Saint Joseph's College of Long Island Eagles 79-77. The Cougars improve to 1-1 overall while the Eagles drop to 1-2 overall. The win snaps a eight game losing streak. 

There were five ties in the game, all happening in the 1st half. There were four ties in the first 3:20. The Eagles would build a 14pt lead, before the Cougars chipped away and finally tied the game at 43, heading into the break.

In the 2nd half, the Cougars built a 8pt. lead, and led for majority of the frame. The Eagles would regain the lead, when Sean McCarthy hit a jumper, making the score 77-76 (1:41 left). After a costly turnover from Eagles Guard Nick Gallina, Valin Williams would make a dunk, sealing the win for Medgar Evers College.

Head Coach Chris Pursoo was pleased with the victory "I am proud of the way my guys played in the 2nd half. They fought multiple deficits in the 1st half, and hung together for the win."

The Cougars shot 49.2% from the field, 55.6% from 3pt. range, and 41.7% from the free throw line. The Eagles shot 47.6% from the field, 36.8% from 3pt. range, and 62.5% from the free throw line.

The Cougars were led by Junior Guard Matt Walker, who scored a career high 38pts (15-24 FG-FGA, 6-7 3pt. FG-FGA, and 2-5 FT-FTA). The Brooklyn, NY native grabbed seven rebounds, dished out two assists, and added a steal. Senior Forward/Center and Co-Captain Valin Williams scored 15pts (7-12 FG-FGA and 1-2 FT-FTA) and grabbed nine rebounds. Williams dished out an assist, and blocked two shots. Fellow Captain Pablo Segura recorded 12pts (5-9 FG-FGA, 2-3 3pt. FG-FGA, and 0-2 FT-FTA). The Junior guard grabbed four rebounds and dished out two assists.

The Eagles were led by Evan Mohammed with 29pts. Billy Heenan added 16pts and Isaiah Moore tallied 11pts. 

The Cougars will be back in action on Saturday November 22, 2014, when they travel to Bridgewater, Massachusetts and play in the Bridgewater State Invitational. The Cougars will play the Middlebury Colleg Panthers. Game time will be 2:00pm. The game will be live on mascac.tv
