EUGENE, Ore. – Danny Brakebush (So., Portland, Ore.) led Pacific in scoring for the second straight game as the Boxers secured their third consecutive win with a 72-61 victory over New Hope Christian Tuesday in men's basketball action at the Rexius Gym.
The reigning Northwest Conference Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week led all scorers with 23 points as he connected on 9 of 17 from the field and 5 of 9 from three-point range. Brakebush led another solid shooting night that saw the Boxers (4-3) connected on 46.8 percent from the field (29-62) and 45.5 percent from three-point range (10-22).
Riley Grandinetti (Sr., Murray, Utah) was the only other Pacific player in double figures with 11 points. Mitch Wettig (Sr., Bend, Ore.) and DeVon Pouncey (Jr., Vallejo, Calif.) each had seven rebounds as Pacific out-rebounded the Deacons 48-28.
Tayler Branch led New Hope Christian (1-16) with 14 points while Corey Gantt added 10 points. The Deacons finished the night shooting 39.7 percent from the field (25-63) and just 2 of 13 from the arc.
Pacific was forced to come from behind in the first half as they shot just 38 percent from the field, but bounced back from as much as a five-point deficit to take a 36-34 halftime lead. The Boxers surged to shoot 57 percent from both the field and three-point in the second half to build their winning cushion.
