A strong second half lifted the Millikin University men's basketball team to a 73-47 win over Cornell College (Iowa) on Dec. 13 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Ill. Millikin improves to 5-5 on the season while Cornell falls to 2-5.
Both teams shot well in the first half with each team connecting on over 50 percent of its shots. Millikin pulled away from a tight contest late in the half and had a 37-31 advantage at halftime. The Big Blue controlled the second half outscoring the Rams by 20 points and shooting 68 percent from the field.
On the game Millikin shot 61 percent from the field and 85 percent from the free throw line. Cornell hit on 38.5 percent from the field hitting on only 24 percent in the second half. Millikin won the rebounding battle 24-22.
Sophomore Brody Bence led Millikin in scoring with a career high 14 points. Bence had four rebounds. Junior TJ Griffin had 12 points and four assists. Bryn Agnew had nine points, a team high five rebounds and two blocks. Parker Day and TJ Sims each had eight points.
Corey Davis led the Rams with 16 points followed by Brad Hund with 12.
Millikin will take some time off for final exams and the holiday. The Big Blue will be back in action on New Year's Day with a 3 p.m. tip off against Wisconsin-LaCrosse at the Griswold Center.
