WILKES-BARRE, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy led from start to finish in defeating the host King's, 66-42, at the First National Community Bank/Monarch Classic Friday night.
The Griffins (6-3) had three players in double figures, led by sophomore Aaron Goodman who posted a game-high 18 points. Sophomore Cedric Elleby added 17 while senior Justin Knight chipped in 12. Both Goodman and Elleby led the rebound battle, each pulling down eight.
GM raced out to 12-2 lead just over five minutes into the contest. Gwynedd would shoot 47.1% in the first stanza while holding the Monarchs to a 33.3% effort in taking a 35-20 lead into the half.
Another early 10-0 run would give the Griffins a 49-23 cushion with just over 12 minutes to play where they would maintain control and cruise to the win.
Overall, Gwynedd was 28-of-60 (46.7%) from the floor, winning the battle on the glass, 39-33, and forced 20 turnovers that led to 13 points.
Tim O'Shea came off the bench to score a team-high 12 points for King's (5-3), who finished at a 17-for-52 (32.7%) shooting clip. Dan Borner added 10.
Gwynedd Mercy continues play tomorrow when they take on Wilkes at 1 p.m. The Colonels suffered a 100-91 overtime defeat to Susquehanna in the first game tonight.
