GAMBIER, Ohio – Jordan Herron and Travell Oakes produced double-doubles and Robert Ryan scored in double figures for the second time this season as Albion College gained a 74-58 victory over Kenyon College in non-league men's basketball action.

"This was a great team win," Albion Head Coach Jody May said. "You never know what you are going to get in the first game after final exams. I didn't expect us to beat Kenyon by 16 points."

Albion surged to the victory by outscoring Kenyon, 35-19, over the final 14:15.

"We forced some tough shots by getting in the right spots defensively," May said. "Our defense led to good offense."

The score was tied at 39 when Albion went on an 8-0 spurt. Lucas Marble knocked down a three-point basket as Albion seized the lead for good. Oakes followed with a jumper and Ryan tacked on an old-fashioned three-point play.

Oakes and De'Tavia Moore contributed three points apiece during another 6-0 run as Albion built its first double-digit lead, 53-41, midway through the second half. Albion maintained the double-digit lead the rest of the way.

Briton Notes

Herron finished with 17 points, two shy of his season high. He matched his season-high in rebounds with 11. It was Herron's first double-double of the season and the eighth of his collegiate career. It was his first double-double since an 18-point, 13-rebound output in a Jan. 21, 2014 win over Olivet College

Oakes finished with 14 points, two shy of his season high. He pulled down 12 rebounds, matching his season high. Oakes has shot 50 percent or better in five of the six games Albion has played this season. He was 6-of-9 from the floor at Kenyon.

Ryan finished with 10 points, also two shy of his season high. He set career highs in free throws and attempts, going 6-of-7 at the line.

Moore produced a career-high eight points, knocking down 3-of-4 shots from the field.

Next Up

Albion, 4-2 overall, has a Tuesday night date at local rival Spring Arbor University. Admission is free to guests bringing a non-perishable food item to the game. The food items will be donated to the Lions Club for baskets given to needy families during the holiday season.

"We have similar teams coming up on the schedule," May said in talking about the game at Spring Arbor and the Britons Dec. 18 home game against the College of Mount Saint Joseph. "The upcoming opponents are good, quality, well coached teams. We'll have to earn everything we get."
