JAMAICA, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's basketball team fell to host York College, 79-67, in CUNY Athletic Conference action, on Tuesday evening. The Lightning are now 2-1 in CUNYAC play, and 5-3 overall.
The Lightning trailed, 44-34, just over three minutes into the second half, but would respond as junior forward Jerrome Jones (Bronx, N.Y./Mount Vernon) and senior guard Jonathan Greenfield (Hartford, Conn./Windsor) each scored four points during Lehman's 11-2 run, to pull the Lightning within one, with 9:13 left to play. The Cardinals (6-2, 3-0 CUNYAC) answered by scoring the next nine points, in a span of 2:11, to go back up by double digits, 55-45, and put the game out of reach for the Lightning. York would go on to win the game by 12.
Lehman trailed the entire first half but would keep the score close. Greenfield connected on a jump shot to narrow York's lead to 19-18, with 9:19 remaining in the opening half. Lehman fell behing by nine, but would go on a 6-0 run, capped off by a layup from Greenfield, to shrink the deficit to 31-28, with 4:24 remaining in the first half. The Lightning trailed, 35-30, at the half and couldn't complete the rally in the second stanza.
Greenfield led the Lightning with a game-high 18 points. Jones tallied 15 points, grabbed eight boards, and forced three steals. Junior forward Chaun Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y./Eleanor Roosevelt) just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Lehman will conclude the three-game conference road trip with a showdown against Brooklyn College, on Friday. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
