Williams ties his career high with 25 points; Offense propels Sewanee to win against Covenant

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Dec. 9, 2014) – Behind an outstanding offensive effort and 25 points from sophomore Jorden Williams, the Sewanee men's basketball team rolled past Covenant 77-64, Tuesday, inside Juhan Gymnasium.

The Tigers shot 56.3 percent from the field while Williams tied his previous career high in points on 6-of-14 shooting.

Sewanee quickly jumped in front after making 65.5 percent of its shots in the opening 20 minutes. The Tigers led 7-0 before the Scots finally scored with a three throw by T.J. Cox.

The Tigers kept playing well as Sewanee led by 16, 19-3, with just over eight minutes off the clock.

Eventually, Sewanee led 43-26 at halftime. In second half, the Tigers would extend their advantage to as much as 21, 50-29, when sophomore Clay Born made a three.

Covenant did manage to outscore the Tigers from there. However, Covenant only managed to pull within single digits once with 3:33 left.

Ahead by nine, 65-56, Sewanee then used a 9-2 run to put the game away with 1:19 to play.

Along with their outstanding shooting percentage, the Tigers dominated the glass. Sewanee outrebounded Covenant, 37-21. The Tigers also finished with a season-high 14 assists.

In addition to Williams, junior forward Keshonn Carter finished with 17 points (6-of-7) and eight rebounds. Fellow forward Seth Brown also came in and scored 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting.

Colton McGriff led the Scots with 17 points.

After the Advent academic semester ends, Sewanee will return to action with a 4:00 p.m. (EST) contest against Keystone in Hampden-Sydney, Va., on December 18.
