FREDERICK, Md. - Four players scored in double figures to help Hood to a come-from-behind 72-70 win over visiting Lycoming in Commonwealth Conference action.
Davon Hill (Clinton, Md. / Potomac School) scored a game-high 19 points to lead Hood. The junior was 6-of-12 shooting, including two 3-pointers, and went 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Chris Cook(Mechanicsville, Va. / Lee-Davis) had 18 points on 6-of-11 from the field and 5-of-6 from the line. Terell Buyck (Forestville, Md. / Bishop McNamara) added a dozen points, went 6-of-7 at the foul line and grabbed five rebounds. Reggie Daniels (Abingdon, Md. / Patterson Mill) had a perfect day from the floor, hitting all five of his field goals. He also blocked two shots, making the senior just the second player in school history with at least 100 career rejections.
Trevor Magnuski (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) had a solid all-around effort with a team-high nine rebounds and a game-high six assists.
Hood battled back in the second half after the Warriors scored eight points in the final minute of the first half to take a 42-32 lead into the break. A layup by Daniels with 14:37 to play started a 13-2 run that tied the game at 52 on a three by Hill seven minutes later. With 6:32 remaining, Cook's only three of the day gave the Blazers their first lead of the half, 57-55.
Trailing 61-59, Daniels and Magnuski both grabbed offensive rebounds before Magnuski found Daniels in the corner for a 3-point field goal with 3:34 on the clock. The bucket put Hood ahead for good, 62-61.
The Warriors stayed in the game down the stretch. Hill hit a free throw to make it a two-possession game, 67-63, but Issak Bodon cut the Blazer lead to a point with a three 10 seconds later. After two free throws by Cook stretched it to 69-66, Nykolas King brought Lycoming back to within a point, 69-68 with 18 seconds left. A Cook free throw stretched it to a two-point lead and Bodon's 3-point attempt at the other end was off the mark. Buyck cleared the rebound and hit both free throws to seal with eight seconds left.
Hood shot a season-high 46 percent in the game and made 20-of-29 free throws (69 percent).
Bodon came off the bench for 16 points to lead Lycoming on 5-of-9 shooting, including 4-of-6 from behind the arc. King had 15 points, hitting 7-of-9 field goals. Alex Newbold scored 10 points before fouling out. John Monkam tied Hood's Magnuski for game-high honors with nine rebounds.
The win gave Hood its first Commonwealth Conference win of the year as the Blazers improved to 2-4 on the year and 1-2 in the league. Lycoming fell to 4-4 and 2-1.
Hood is idle until hosting the Rotary of Frederick Holiday Classic on December 20-21.
