HENREITTA, NY - St. John Fisher College topped the University of Rochester men's basketball team 61-56 for 3rd place in the Wendy's College Classic on Saturday afternoon at RIT's Clark Gymnasium.

Rochester (4-4) falls to Fisher in the 3rd place game for the 2nd straight season and earns its 3rd fourth place finish overall in the Wendy's Classic.  The Cardinals improve to 3-2 with the victory.

In the early going, UR used four 3-point field goals to jump out to a 14-7 lead nine minutes into the contest.  Overall in the first 20 minutes, five of Rochester's seven made shots were from long range as the Yellowjackets went into the break tied at 23 with the Cardinals.

Both teams struggled to find a groove from the floor in the first half, with each team shooting under 40%.

For nearly the entire 2nd period, both teams would battle back-and-forth, keeping the opponent within two baskets of each other.  Back-to-back layups by Charles McVay ended up putting SJFC up by four, breaking a 44-44 tie with 5:05 remaining.

UR's Jared Seltzer would cut the lead to one with an old-fashioned 3-point play with 2:33 on the clock, but the Cardinals would withhold the rally behind a layup and then a big steal by Stefan Bock.  Fisher would then hit five of eight free throws down the stretch to earn the five point win.

Rochester was led by sophomore Sam-Borst Smith with 16 points.  Mack Montague hit four treys and ended with 14 points while Seltzer chipped in 12 points.  Overall, Fisher held a 31-24 edge on the glass and shot 50% from the floor compared to just 37.5% for Rochester.

The Yellowjackets next play against Hobart College on Wednesday at 7 pm in the Palestra for their final non-conference home game of the season.
