Mariners Overpowered by Maine-Farmington in NAC Opener

FARMINGTON, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy Men's Basketball (1-4, 0-1) fell to Maine-Farmington (1-3, 1-0) on Tuesday night, 72-55 in the opening night of North Atlantic Conference play.

Senior Jason Hatch (Islesboro, Maine) picked up a team-high 16 points off the bench, on 5-of-6 shooting, including 2-2 from beyond the arc to lead the Mariners, while Kyle Boucher (Wayne, Maine) grabbed 14 points and Nick Holt(Ellsworth, Maine) added 10.

The Mariners fought hard throughout the game using a nine-point run, highlighted by two Holt three-pointers, to hold a three-point lead midway through the first half.

The two teams battled back and forth before Zachary Radcliffe (Rumford, Maine) nailed a three-pointer of his own to regain the lead for the Mariners with a little under two minutes remaining in the half, but the Beavers responded with six unanswered points to take a 29-24 lead into the half.

In the second half the physical battle continued with the two teams combining for 33 fouls. The Beavers outscored the Mariners 15-4 to open up the second half and never looked back, leading by as much as 20 points in the final minute of the game.

Nick Hilton scored a game-high 22 points for the Beavers while Uriah Forest-Bulley followed closely with 21 points.

The Mariners will host NAC rival Husson University this Saturday, December 6th at 3:00 PM.
