Panthers Claw Past Lesley in Non-Conference Action

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Lesley University juniors Casey Blanchard (Bernardston, Mass.) and Corbin Polec (Okemos, Mich.) each finished with 15 points, but it was not enough as the Lynx fell on the road to Plymouth State University 84-54 in non-conference action tonight at the Foley Gym. With the win, the Panthers improve to 3-3 on the season while the Lynx drop to 0-4 in the loss.   

Blanchard and Polec each connected on three buckets from downtown as they led the Lynx in scoring. Senior Justin Rosa (East Brunswick, N.J.) added eight points and a team-high seven rebounds while classmate Nikalus Oliver (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) came off the bench for eight points, four rebounds, and three assists. Sophomore Terrell Toney (Lakewood, Wash.) chipped in with four points on the night.

The Panthers drained 21-of-27 shots from the field in the opening 20 minutes, including all six three-point attempts. Senior Alex Burt (Dover, N.H.), who led all players with a game-high 20 points, made 7-of-8 shots in the first half, while junior Uche Nwokeji (Lynn, Mass.) made 4-of-6 field goal attempts for all 10 of his points in the opening session. Sophomore Nathan Clarke (Reading, Mass.) and freshman Max Coleman (Londonderry, N.H.) also chipped in with 15 points apiece for PSU. 

PSU had a five-point margin in the first six minutes before going on a 10-2 burst over the next three minutes to open up a 13-point lead, 24-11. The Panthers maintained the double-digit advantage, pushing the lead to 20 points (41-21) with four minutes to play.  Burt hit a lay-up in the closing seconds of the half to put the hosts up by 23. 

The Lynx will continue on to play game two of their current three-game road swing on Wednesday when they travel to Emerson College for a non-conference battle with the Lions. Tip-off is set for 7:30p. 

Plymouth State opens Little East Conference play Saturday when they play host to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth at 3:00 p.m.
