NASHVILLE, Tenn.—The Transylvania University men's basketball team fell to the Bisons of Lipscomb University on Saturday night by a score of 74-63. Lipscomb, a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference, is an NCAA Division I institution.

The Pioneers would jump out to an early 6-0 lead on three-pointers from sophomore guard Alex Jones and freshman guard Sam Sergeant. Transy would keep the lead for the first ten minutes of the game, but Lipscomb would mount a 9-0 run from 10:58 until the 9:49 mark and take a 19-16 lead.

Transylvania would commit nine turnovers during the final ten minutes of the half and the Bisons would convert those into several easy baskets. Lipscomb closed the half on a 14-6 run and took a ten point lead into the intermission, up 34-24.

In the second half, the Pioneers came out swinging and brought the margin back to six, riding jump shots from Jones and junior guard Parker Stansberry. By the second media timeout of the half, however, Lipscomb had pushed its lead to 13 and would continue to build on that lead, taking a 59-42 lead with 10:11 remaining. The 17 point margin would be Lipscomb's largest of the game.

The trio of Sergeant, Stansberry and Jones would lead the Pioneers in scoring in the game. Sergeant went 4-11 from the floor, including three three-pointers en route to scoring 14. Stansberry also knocked down three three-point shots while recording 13 points. Jones would go 3-8 from the field but would sink 4-5 free throws to tally 11 points in the game. Jones would also pull down 10 rebounds, making him the only player to record a double-double in the game for either team.

Lipscomb would shoot 47 percent in the game while holding Transy to just 30 percent from the field. The size advantage for the Bisons made them a dominating presence in the lane, outscoring the Pioneers 36-8 in the paint. Transylvania managed to snag the same number of rebounds as Lipscomb, with each team pulling in 39 total boards.

The Pioneers, now 0-2 on the season, are back in action next Saturday when they travel to Louisville to take on Spalding University.
