Purchase, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team cruised past host Manhattanville College, 91-74, in the opening day of the AJ Buchanan Classic on Friday night at Kennedy Gymnasium.
With the win, the Bulldogs extend their win streak to three straight to improve to 3-1 overall on the season. Brooklyn will now play The Sage Colleges in the championship game of the AJ Buchanan Classic tomorrow, Saturday, November 22nd at 4:00 pm at Kennedy Gym. Live stats will be available.
Manhattanville falls to 1-3 overall on the year and will play New York University in the consolation game tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 pm.
Sage defeated NYU, 68-65, in the opening game of the tournament to advance to Saturday's championship game.
The Bulldogs used a hot shooting hand going 24-for-42 (57.1%) from the field to take a commanding 19-point, 51-32, halftime advantage. Following a lay-up from MVille's Juan Camacho that gave the home team a 9-6 lead early in the game with 17:37 on the clock in the first half, Brooklyn would seize control of the game using a 17-4 run to build a 10-point advantage, 23-13, with 13:15 left before the halftime break. BC would never trail again en route to taking their 19-point intermission break.
Brooklyn's offense continued to roll in the second half, as the Bulldogs shot 59.3% (16-for-27) in the second period. BC would balloon its lead to as many as 26, 84-58, with 5:46 left in the game, en route to their 17-point victory, 91-74.
The Bulldogs had six players score in double-figures, including all five starters. Senior Jai Kellman led all scorers with 20 points, going 9-for-12 from the field and 2-for-5 from three. Classmate Valon Djombalic added 14 points on a perfect 7-for-7 shooting from the field, to go along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Juniors Lorenzo Williams and Egzon Gjonbalaj each finished with 11 points, while classmate Jamel Gist chipped in with 10 points. Williams also dished out five assists, to go with six rebounds, while Gjonbalaj pulled down seven rebounds, to go with two blocks. Junior Dillon Williams contributed with 13 points and nine rebounds coming off the bench.
The Valiants were led by Anthony Maestre's team-high 17 points. Camacho finished with 14 points, while Charles Nardone added 12 points off the bench.
For the game, the Bulldogs shot 58% (40-for-69) from the field, but struggled from beyond the arc going 7-for-24 (29.2%) from three. Brooklyn went to the line just eight times, converting four of the attempts (50.0%).
MVille shot 40.6% (26-for-64) from the field, including 21.1% (4-for-19) from beyond the ar. The Valiants also shot 81.8% (18-for-22) from the charity stripe.
Brooklyn also won the battle of the glass, out-rebounding Manhattanvile, 44-26.
