Bodnar hits six threes in Blue Jays' 70-58 loss at Lancaster Bible

More news about: Elizabethtown

LANCASTER, Pa.Joe Bodnar hit a program-record eight 3-pointers in one game last December. He made a valiant run at it Tuesday night, drilling 6-of-11 shots from downtown for a game-high 22 points in a 70-58 non-conference loss at Lancaster Bible.

Bodnar really started to get in a groove after halftime. All six of his shots in the second half were from 3-point range and he sunk four as the Blue Jays (1-2) closed what was once a 19-point lead to five, 61-56, with 4:59 to play.

Tommy James started the climb back with two straight layups. Matt Lane also finished at the rim and Bodnar hit consecutive threes to quickly cut 10 points off the Chargers (1-1) lead.

The buckets continued to come for Elizabethtown, as Matt Lapkowicz, Jake Sweger and Lee Eckert all scored before another Bodnar three capped the visitors' 21-7 run.

But after Bodnar's final three, the well dried up. The Blue Jays missed their final six shots and were only able to get a pair of Phil Wenger free throws the rest of the way in falling to LBC for the first time in six meetings.

What ultimately did E-town in was two Lancaster Bible runs to start each half. The Chargers made their first three shots and five of their first nine to open the game on a 13-1 run.

After Elizabethtown had trimmed the lead to five, 34-29, at the break, LBC pushed its lead back to 14 with a 9-0 jaunt over the first 2:41 of the second half.

Bodnar was the only Blue Jay in double figures after shooting 8-of-13 for the night (6-of-11 3FG). The team shot 41.2% (21-of-51) for the game, with Eckert and Lane scoring eight points apiece. Eckert was held to less than 10 points for just the third time in his last 20 games going back to last season.

Lancaster Bible, which never trailed in the game, made just over half of its shots, going 23-of-45 (51.1%). The Chargers were able to take advantage at the foul line, too, making 19-of-25 attempts. E-town, meanwhile, only shot 15 free throws in the game.

Three players finished in double figures for the hosts, led by Albert Suniga's 17 points. Dondre Perry had 16 and CJ Dunston put up a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

The Blue Jays, who get Scranton in their home opener and inaugural Landmark Conference game Saturday at 4 p.m., were outrebounded 33-23.
