Oswego, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team earned their first win of the season after defeating Elmira, 70-66, on the final day of the Max Ziel Classic hosted by Oswego State.

The Soaring Eagles (1-1) jumped out to an early 17-6 lead, before a 12-0 Farmingdale State (1-1) run put the Rams ahead 18-17 with 9:02 left in the first half.

Tied 20-20, back-to-back 3-pointers from Elmira sophomore guard Oladapo Badmos (Richmond Hill, ONT) extended the advantage to six.

Trailing by six with two seconds remaining in the half, freshman center Ronald Winkler (North Massapequa, N.Y.) connected on a layup to send the Rams into the break trailing 33-29.

With 8:52 left to play and the game tied at 51-51, Farmingdale State freshman forward Eriq Williams (Valley Stream, N.Y.) scored a layup and hit a free-throw after being fouled and Trey Kinard (Deer Park, N.Y.) connected on a 3-pointer which put the Rams ahead by six, 57-51.

Elmira cut the deficit to 63-60 with 3:42 remaining but four straight Rams points brought the Farmingdale State advantage back to seven.

The Rams converted 3-of-4 at the line over the final 33 seconds to seal the first victory of the season.

Kinard registered a game-high 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting, while Winkler tallied 11 points (5-for-5) and six rebounds. Junior guard Ruben Terrero (Brentwood, N.Y.), who was named to the All-Tournament Team, had eight points, six assists, four rebounds and three steals in the victory.

The Soaring Eagles were led by Badmos and junior guard Justin Henderson (Staten Island, N.Y.) who each scored a team-high 12 points.

The Rams next will travel to Stockton for a non-conference game on Wednesday, November 19th at 7:00 p.m.
