Gwynedd Mercy Takes Season Opener In Runaway Win

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA – Junior Julian Hyden led the way with 13 points, seven rebounds and five steals as Gwynedd Mercy handed Penn State-Berks a 91-59 loss on Saturday night in the 2014 season opener.

The Griffins set the pace early as they went up 11-0 and recorded two steals just four minutes into game time.  Gwynedd went on to shoot 45.2% (19-42) in the half while also showing up strong defensively with 26 rebounds compared to the Lions' 18.  Eleven players would get on board as the Griffins lead 47-24 going into the break.

Hyden, along with sophomore Arron Goodman, junior Brian Hennessey and senior Seth Heinicke paced a very balanced offense as each registered double figures. 

The Lions had two players reach double digits, as sophomore Nygel Belizaire recorded 12 points and junior Christian Burggraf added 17 points, five rebounds, and five steals.

Overall, the Griffins were 32-67 shooting 47.8% while hitting 9-23 (39.1%) from behind the arc.

The Griffins are back at it on Tuesday November 18th as they take on Wesley College in front of a home crowd.  Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
