OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Cameron Cook's (Baltimore, Md. / Calvert Hall) sixth 3-pointer of the night with 8:50 left in the game nearly completed a 19-point comeback, but an improbable pass against Hood College's press and a Justin Kuntz dunk halted the rally as Stevenson went on to win 83-72 in the Commonwealth Conference Semifinals.

The Blazers (17-10) hit 10-of-20 threes in the second half as they mounted a comeback, including 5-of-8 by Cook. The senior finished the night with 26 points and seven 3-pointers, both season-highs for a Hood player. Cook scored 17 of his 26 points in the second half and had four rebounds and two steals in the game. His final three of the night was his 90th of the year, tying the school record set by Ryan Junghans in 2006-07.

Cook now has 314 career threes, the most of any active Division III player. He became just the second player in school history to score at least 1,600 points and his 1,612 are just 21 shy of Santo Provenzano's school record.

The Blazers trailed 35-19 at the half and found themselves behind 38-19 after a 3-point play by Erik Fisher just 30 seconds after play resumed. A Justin Bowens (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) layup started a 12-0 run that featured five points by each Cook and Reggie Daniels (Abingdon, Md. / Patterson Mill) to bring Hood within 38-31 with 17:20 to play.

After the Mustangs (19-7) took a 14-point lead on a Jeff Holmes three, Chris Cook (Mechanicsburg, Va. / Lee-Davis) had an old fashioned 3-point play, then sank a three from behind the arc to chip the deficit to 56-48 with 11:18 to go.

Cameron Cook followed with a 3-pointer and Trevor Magnuski (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) had a tip-in as the Blazers trailed by just three, 56-53, with 9:23 to play. Kuntz sank a pair of free throws before Cook's three capped a 14-2 run that pulled Hood within a bucket.

But on the next possession, Darius Walker was trapped in the backcourt and threw the ball 30-feet through the air in the direction of Kuntz, who somehow caught it amongst several Blazer defenders, turned and dunked. The score started a 9-0 run for Stevenson that gave the Mustangs just enough breathing room down the stretch.

For the night, the Blazers went 14-of-31 from behind the arc (45 percent). Cook was 7-of-12 and Davon Hill (Clinton, Md. / Potomac School) went 3-of-4. Hood's 236 3-pointers this season are a new school record, as are its 246 steals.

All 10 of Chris Cook's points came during the second half and the junior guard matched a career-high with seven assists. Bowens added 14 points and Daniels blocked three shots.

Kuntz finished with 20 points to lead five players in double figures for the Mustangs. He also had 14 rebounds and four steals. Walker had 11 points, eight boards, and five assists.

Stevenson will face Alvernia in the championship game of the tournament on Saturday, March 1.

Hood, whose 17 wins this year are the second most in school history, awaits word on potential bids to either the NCAA or ECAC tournaments.
