NEW YORK, N.Y. – The sixth seeded Lehman College men's basketball team had its magical run through the CUNY Athletic Conference Championships come to an end on Tuesday night, falling in the Semifinal Round to #2 York College, 97-73, at the Nat Holman Gymnasium, on the campus the City College of New York. Lehman had upset #3 Baruch College in the Quarterfinal Round, on Baruch's home floor.

York (20-7) now advances to the CUNYAC Championship game, which will be played on Friday, February 28, at 8:30 p.m.  York will face the top seeded College of Staten Island, who defeated #4 Hunter College, 92-71, earlier in the night. The title contest, which carries an automatic berth in the upcoming NCAA Division III Championships, will be broadcast live over the internet on ESPN3.

Lehman (14-13) will now await a possible invitation into the ECAC Metro Region Championship. The selections will be made on the afternoon of Monday, March 3, with opening round games played on Wednesday, March 5.

Tonight, York opened the game on an 8-0 run, before Lehman sophomore forward Jerrome Jones (Bronx, N.Y./Mt. Vernon) made a layup in the paint to put Lehman on the board. As a team, Lehman struggled mightily early on the offensive end, making just two of their first 11 shots from the floor. The Cardinals, meanwhile, hit ten of their first 17 shots, building a 24-5 lead. CUNYAC Player of the Year Michael Woods and Donald Rodriguez had seven points apiece for the Cardinals during that opening stretch. Woods would finish the game with 24 points.

At the half, York would lead, 43-26. Lehman shot a respectable 41.7 %, while York shot an amazing 53.3%. The Lightning turned the ball over 12 times, struggling with the constant Cardinals' pressure. Senior Kelvin Gil (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) scored eight points and had a pair of assists in those first 20 minutes of action.

In the second half, Lehman came out with passion. Jones made back-to-back layups in the lane, then junior Jonathan Greenfield (Hartford, Conn./Windsor) banged home a jumper, cutting the lead to 48-32. Minutes later, a Greenfield three-pointer would trim the lead to 15 points, at 54-39, at the 16:04 mark.

York would then go on a 14-0 run, led by Woods, who scored the first seven points of that run. From there, the lead swelled to as many as 31 points, with the final score, 97-73.

Leading the Lightning was Jones, who scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half. He also grabbed a team-high ten rebounds. Gil was the team's second leading scorer, with 16, followed by senior swingman Stanley Stephens (New York, N.Y./Manhattan Center) with 12, and senior Ryan Alvarado (New York, N.Y./Urban Peace) with ten.
