ALMA - Mark Ghafari broke Kalamazoo College's single-game scoring record with 46 points in a season-ending loss at Alma College on Saturday, 85-80.

Ghafari was 13-of-23 from the field, including 4-of-12 from behind the arch. He was a perfect 16-of-16 at the free throw line. The senior guard also had three rebounds, one steal, and just one turnover in 37 minutes of play in his final game as a Hornet.

John Schelske previously held the school record with 44 points in a game against Olivet in 1981.

Unfortunately for the Hornets, Alma's hot shooting was too much to overcome. The host Scots shot 50.9 percent overall, including 11-of-24 on 3-pointers and 18-of-21 free throws. Kalamazoo shot 39.4 percent overall, including 8-of-20 3's and 20-of-27 free throws.

The two teams traded leads during the first 10 minutes of the contest before Alma began pulling away, eventually leading by as many as 11 points before taking a 42-35 lead into halftime.

Kalamazoo scored the first seven points of the second half to even the score before eventually taking lead at the 13:08 mark. The game went back-and-forth and was tied for the 12th time in the game (73-73) with 3:27 remaining. An Alma layup put the Scots up two and the host scored its final 10 points all on free throws to secure the five point win.

Grant Carey finished his career with 11 points, five rebounds and two steals as Kalamazoo's second leading scorer in the game.

"It was great to see our seniors play well in their final college basketball game," said Kalamazoo College Head Coach Eric Dougal. "It's only fitting that Mark set Kalamazoo's single-game scoring record in his final collegiate basketball game. It was an impressive performance. Grant Carey also played well in his final game."

Keaton Adams also finished his career with one rebound and one steal.

"We will hugely miss our three seniors," Dougal added. "They have been tremendous players, role models and leaders for our team. I can't thank them enough for their role in rebuilding this program. Our future is bright because of their hard work. Their accomplishments at K both on and off the court represent the true meaning of student-athlete. I am so proud of these three."

Adam Dykema added nine points while Adam Peters finished with five.
