Blair Estarfaa scored a game-high 25 points and Kevin McMahon added 24 as SUNY Cortland downed SUNY Potsdam 79-67 at Jerry Welsh Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
Potsdam (4-18 overall, 2-13 SUNYAC) trailed 49-34 at halftime and fell behind as many as 23 before ending the game on an 8-0 run.
Junior guard/forward Zac Adams (Potsdam, N.Y. / Potsdam) had 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting, five assists, three rebounds and two steals. The point total was one off from tying his season-high of 20 set back on Nov. 16 against Farmingdale.
Rob Duquette (Peru, N.Y. / Peru) had 12 points and senior forward Brandon Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Boys & Girls) added 10 points, four rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot. Williams was one point shy of his season high.
Cortland shot 25-of-48 from the floor (52 percent) and made it count on the perimeter by hitting 14-of-25 (56 percent) from 3-point range. Four players on the Red Dragons made multiple 3-point attempts with Estarfaa leading the charge by hitting 6-of-10 from downtown.
Other 3-point bombers included T.J. Hefele who made 3-of-4 and finished with 15 points, Garen Spendjian was 2-of-3, Lamard Herron was 2-of-5, and McMahon hit 1-of-2.
Cortland improved to 13-9 overall and 8-7 in the conference.
The Bears kept it close on the boards, getting outrebounded just 29-27, and kept their turnovers low with just seven.
But, shots were falling at a high rate for the Red Dragons all game as it hit 55 percent of its shots in the first half alone and missed only two free throws (15-of-17) for the game.
Conversely, the Bears made just 3-of-12 (25 percent) from long range.
Potsdam will next host Plattsburgh Tuesday at 8 p.m.
