DUDLEY, Mass. -- Senior Ryan Sheehan scored 20 of his team's initial 22 points in the opening seven minutes to help Nichols College record a 90-63 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball victory over the University of New England on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 15).
The Bison (18-5) stay two games clear for the top spot in the league standings, improving to 14-2 in the CCC. The Nor'easters fall to 1-22 overall (1-15 CCC).
Sheehan made 8 of his first 10 shots from the floor and had 24 of his game-high 25 in the 1st half. Sam Horning added 12 points and Christian Horton tallied 11. Jalen Hurst pulled down nine rebounds to lead all players.
The hosts connected on 57 percent (29 for 51) of their shots in the contest, and half (17) of the 34 tries from deep.
UNE got a team-high 14 points and seven rebounds from first-year Brayden Morse. Classmate Tom Nason and sophomore Russ Daly had nine points apiece.
Sheehan got things started with a trey on the first possession of the game, and Nichols did not relinquish the advantage the rest of the day.
The Nor'easters stayed within double digits as Sheehan worked early on, but the Bison doubled up Big Blue (30-14) over the second portion of the half to assume a 57-32 cushion at intermission.
UNE will visit Curry College on Tuesday (7:30 p.m.).
